The role
As the first Principal of the proposed National Challenge Co-op Trust School you will have a wealth of expertise and resources to draw upon to deliver accelerated improvement and better outcomes for our students and local community. With a £12 million redevelopment of the school involving a part new build and partial refurbishment of 10,500 m2, we believe that you will also inherit an innovative and inspiring learning environment.
Key Priorities
- Improve the quality and consistency of teaching.
- Improve the quality and use of assessment and monitoring to improve student attainment.
- Raise standards and accelerate students’ progress, especially that of boys, and particularly in mathematics and science.
- Improve leadership, management and accountability across all areas of the college.
- Improve the appropriateness of the curriculum and raise levels of aspiration.
- Raise attendance closer to national figures and further improve issues relating to NEETs.
The Team
We currently have a strategic leadership team consisting of an Executive Principal (David Kershaw, Interim), Acting Principal (Rosie Kemp) and an NLE (National Leader, Carolyn Robson who will become the Executive Principal).
The core leadership team comprises the above as well as the Vice Principal, Student Support and Pastoral Intervention, Vice Principal, Curriculum, Teaching and Learning and Vice Principal, Achievement, Progress and Intervention.
We recognise that it will be necessary to review this structure because a number of staff are currently acting up on temporary contracts. As the new Principal, you will have an important part to play in developing the new structure.
One of the first tasks for the successful candidate will be to sit down with Carolyn Robson and start to define the relationship between the Principal and the Executive Principal, both in the immediate future and with an eye to the way in which it will develop over the long term.
We are looking for someone with experience of leading improvement and change in challenging contexts as well as the ability to build effective teams, develop staff and encourage student and community involvement.
